The race to replace Guergis!

On March 24th and 25th in Wasaga Beach Ontario, at the RecPlex, local Conservatives in Simcoe grey will elect their candidate to carry the Conservative banner in what will most lilkely be a spring election.

In the running are 3 candidates, and they are Dr. Kellie Leitch, former Collingwood Mayor, Chris Carrier, and long time local Conservative Paul Throop.

Recently Dr. Kellie Leitch has been in the news for her handling of the whole endorsement letter issue surrounding Wasaga Beach Mayor and Simcoe County Warden Cal Patterson. Leitch on her website listed Patterson as endorsing her and she even sent out a letter with Patterson's signature on it as the Mayor and Warden. Patterson denied that he even endorsed her, let alone approved the letter. Then the Enterprise Bulletin in Collingwood was able to obtain e-mails showing proof that Patterson did in fact approve the endorsement. This "Lettergate" scandal lasted for about a week or so, and now Patterson is off on vacation..I wonder why!!

Next up for Doctor Leitch was the battle between her and Wasaga Beach local Amy MacPherson who runs Wasaga Cares. Without going into details, as you can just look up the previous blog postings to get a good hand on the battle between Leitch and MacPherson. Another big question surrounding Dr. Leitch is if she wins the nomination and then the general election will she give up being a Doctor? Some say she has already handed over some of her clients to other doctors..

Now over to my favorite candidate, former Collingwood Mayor, Chris Carrier. Carrier was Mayor of Collingwood for 1 term and was able to raise the towns debt from about 18 million to well over 50 million in 4 short years. His legecy is the big open pit in downtown Collingwood recently re-named "The Carrier Pit". He was also known for his 6 plus hour council meetings and his battling with other members of council. During his campaign to be the next Conservative candidate, he's blocked from his facebook and Twitter accounts myself, and several local newspaper reporters and managing editors. While I'm not a Conservative, he of all people should not block anybody unless they were being a threat to him or his family. While he has as much chance of winning the nomination as the Federal Liberals have in forming a majority government, he needs to suck it up and be able to answer the hard questions and not just run and hide.

Now over to Paul Throop..I will be honest that I don't know much about him, but from speaking with some local Conservative friends he's a very level headed guy who's down to earth and has made over the years strong Conservative connections in the community and in Ottawa. I think he will prove to be a surprise come voting day, and might just win the nomination if he's able to sign up the members.

So come March 26th, the local Conservatives will have their candidate to replace and also battle MP, Helena Guergis in what will be a very interesting election in our riding. Now if only the Greens, Liberals and NDP can get their act together...

Until next time!
